Male circumcision is a process where the foreskin of the male organ is removed through a surgical process. The natural and retractile covering of the glans of the male organ is what is called the prepuce. There are many factors that make men to be circumcised and some of these reasons include one’s preferences, personal beliefs, culture and the religious beliefs. When a mother has given birth to a male child, and they have stayed in the hospital for some time, the child is usually circumcised before they leave the hospital premises. Statistics have also shown that a majority of the male population were circumcised while they were still in hospital as new born. Among the main reasons why parents opt for their male children to be circumcised before leaving the hospital is because of religion, tradition and for hygienic purposes.
There might be pressure from the society on why there is need to have circumcision and that is what makes parents to carry on with the procedure and the other reason is to adhere to the traditions of the family. Since long time ago, male circumcision continues to be practiced, and it has been embraced by many communities in the world. There are many health benefits that are associated with male circumcision, and some of them have been forwarded by people in the medical field. One of the health benefits of male circumcision is that it helps to reduce the chances of someone to have infections that are associated with the urinary tract. Research shows that the number of circumcised boys who will get a tract infection is small compared to those who are not. There is also another condition that is known as penile cancer, and it mainly affects boys who are not circumcised.
Sexually transmitted infections are more common among the group of men that have not cut their prepuce or foreskin. It is believed that cutting off the foreskin enhances hygiene of the male reproductive organ and that is why it is not easy to transmit some of these diseases. With the prepuce, there is a high risk of having an inflammation that can lead to the tightening and hence closure of the opening of the male organ and this can be avoided when there is circumcision. The men who are circumcised also stand a lower risk of infecting women with diseases.
As earlier highlighted, there are various circumstances that force parents to have their babies who are male to be circumcised. If you have a child, the decision will then be between you and your spouse on whether your boy child should undergo circumcision or not. The decision about circumcising your child is a significant one, and that is why it needs to be thought through over and over again.
